Lake Placid Detour 1

I spent a few days in Lake Placid and thought I’d share my experience with you.  Lake Placid is a nice funky little town nestled around tiny Mirror Lake…Lake Placid (the lake) itself is close by…and much bigger.  We stayed at The Mirror Lake Inn, the grand old hotel that has been there for ages.  Though we took the least expensive room (which was still VERY expensive), we got a spectacular room with an equally spectacular view of Mirror Lake.  We were on the top floor of the Mountainview Building which meant we had beautiful 15-foot ceilings in addition to the great views.  The room was spacious with a nice bathroom and a big leather couch next to the king size four poster bed.  The balcony had 2 wicker chairs and a little table and we spent alot of time out there before going to dinner each night.  The service was excellent and there were little thoughtful things that were pleasant (like a plate of home-made cookies at the front desk that you could help yourself to at any time).  I didn’t feel nickled and dimed.

There is a less expensive option at the other end of the lake called the Golden Arrow where you get a discount if you drive a hybrid! We didn’t stay there, but it looked decent and was much much less expensive.  We sauntered into the lobby to check it out.  There are other places like the Crown Plaza and others, but I don’t have any comment on those.
